What is Synchronized Swimming?

Synchronized swimming is a fusion of swimming, gymnastics and dance. It involves competitors (solos, duets, or teams) combining strength, endurance, flexibility, grace and artistry with exceptional breath control while upside down underwater. Swimmers perform their routines to music and are scored on a scale of 10, with points for both technical merit and artistic impression.

Teams:

Teams are selected based on skill, experience, and age. They usually consist of 8 girls, but can reach up to 10. Furthermore, the girls can be chosen to perform, in addition to their team routine, a duet or a solo. These girls are chosen once tryouts are completed, and as soon as their skills are assessed and evaluated. WAC usually has a Senior team, Junir A & B teams as well as a Beginner Synchro Team.

The Beginner Synchro Team will practice during the swimming lessons twice a week and will be required to attend the Saturday morning Synchro Skills program. The beginner team is designed to give the girls a fun introduction to competitive Synchro.  They will compete as pre-swimmers in the team competition and in the summer swimmers meet.

Please consult the ALPS schedule at www.jumptoalps.com or the WAC August calendar for exact dates of competitions.

Practices:

Practices take place in the early mornings ( 7:30 am) and evenings and are numerous. The girls are required to commit to not missing more than 8 practices during the summer and attendance will be taken.

Windermere Synchro also offers a unique Synchro Skills Program. This program is a great opportunity for the girls to learn and execute basic moves (tuck, pike, crane, heron, etc), to help them understand the fundamentals of Synchro, to ultimately improve their skills and perform better at the competitions. In other words, our goal is to bring out the best in each and every girl by showing them the proper way of doing figures and techniques to make them feel more prepared come competition day.  The Synchro skills program will take place on Saturday mornings and will be mandatory for all Synchro team members.

Team Suits:

Girls who participate in the Synchro program are required to pay 60$ towards team bathing suits for the competition. Those who participate in solo and duet events may be required to pay additional fees.
